On May 14, 2026 Lyon County Commissioners: Chris Bartel, Ken Duft, & Doug Peck presented the Veterans Legacy Fund with a Proclamation “America’s 250th Weekend July 3-5, 2026”. Lyon County is home to Emporia, The Founding City of Veterans Day. Whereas we would not be celebrating 250 years as a nation without the sacrifices of our veterans. Whereas the Veterans Legacy Fund serves to recognize previous generations and inspire future ones so as commissioners, it is declared America’s 250 weekend July 3-5, 2026 in Lyon County, Kansas. Thank You to all three commissioners recognizing The Founding City of Veterans Day and Veterans Legacy Fund. Our community will celebrate 250 years of freedom July 3rd to 5th, let’s all remember why and how we got here. Thank You To All Veterans!
